Metallographic Processing Laboratory

The equipment from the Metallographic Preparation Laboratory was purchased in 2020 within the Institutional Development Project 5PFE / 2018 and involved the endowment with 3 machines, such as:

• Mecatome T202 cutting machine the cut is made with a diamond or resinoid disc;

• Equipment for embedding metallographic samples under pressure (2 bar) - ensures a good compaction and contraction of the embedding resin;

• Mecatech 250SPI abrasion and polishing equipment with automatic pressing head and individual adjustment of the force pressure on the sample. The abrasion of the sample is done under water jet, using reflex abrasive paper of various granulations and on felt with sanding suspensions with alumina or diamond suspensions.

The endowment of the laboratory resulted from the need of structural characterization and composition for research of new advanced materials used in the field of MEMS & NEMS, micro and nanotechnologies, thin film coatings for biomedical products and tribotechnological analyzes.

These will complement existing equipment in INCDMTM, such as the Nikon MA-100 Metallographic Microscope and the NTEGRA Prima Atomic Force Microscope, required for material characterization.

By implementing the proposed equipment, the institutional development at European level is ensured, resulting in the improvement of the research results by creating the interlaboratory connection from the national and international system.
